Taking the oath as the new chief justice of the Islamabad High Court on Friday was Justice Aamer Farooq (IHC).

During a ceremony conducted at Aiwan-e-Saddar, Justice Farooq received his oath from President Arif Alvi. Many judges, attorneys, and other persons took the oath during the ceremony.

The recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee for the appointment of Justice Aamer Farooq as chief justice of the IHC were approved earlier this week by President Dr. Arif Alvi.

After the incumbent Chief Justice of the IHC, Athar Minallah, was elevated by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to serve as a judge of the Supreme Court, the position became vacant.

The elevation of Justice Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi of the Sindh High Court (SHC) to the SC was also approved by the JCP on October 24 by a vote of five to four.
