LONDON – According to PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is holding the protracted march for a single reason, which is preventing the country from appointing a new army chief.

Since General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the current Chief of Army Staff (COAS), will retire this month, the coalition government is getting ready to name a new army chef.

Imran Khan, the head of the PTI, expressed concern that the government intended to nominate a new COAS of its choice and vowed to prevent this from happening.

Maryam Nawaz claimed during a press conference in London that Imran Khan was not involved in the high-profile choice of the new army chief, which will be made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

She claimed that Imran Khan’s long march had been detained in Lahore for another five days, despite reports that it will arrive in the nation’s capital in eight to ten days.

If you keep going at this rate, your long march won’t get to Islamabad until after a month. The head of the PML-N also expressed sorrow over the passing of journalist Sadaf Naeem when he was covering the lengthy march.

According to Maryam, the PTI has been telling such terrible lies that the DG ISI had to hold a news conference on television. She also said that the general population needs to be made aware of how bad the situation is.

No one, according to her, would talk to Imran Khan if his sit-in in the capital city went on for months.

The PML-N leader alleged that security for a march, which has nothing to do with the public interest, is being paid for with tax dollars.

She also criticised Khan for boasting about his victory in the by-elections, claiming that he won in the seats left vacant by members of his own party.

She advised the PTI leader to wait for his main rival, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, saying that when Nawaz has the chance to run for office, Khan will discover his true popularity.

Nawaz Sharif will “Insha Allah return to Pakistan soon,” Maryam added.

She responded to Imran Khan’s claim that the government officials were thieves by posing the question, “Was it the establishment that encouraged you to steal gifts from the Toshakhan and sell them?”

According to Maryam, a new significant controversy involving PTI will soon come to light.

Graff, one of the top diamond manufacturers in the world, has given Pakistan a diamond set. Khan purchased it from the Toshakhana for Rs. 2 million, but he sold it off for Rs. 22 million in Dubai, according to her.
