Afghan boy finally receives citizenship in Pakistan after 24 years of struggle

The Interior Ministry has been ordered by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to rule on the 24-year-old Afghan kid’s application for citizenship in accordance with the law and submit a report by the following Friday. The youngster was born in a family of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

At the hearing for the petition for Pakistani citizenship filed by 24-year-old Fazal Haq, who was born into an Afghan refugee family, the court’s chief justice, Athar Minallah, stated that the court had examined the earlier ruling in the matter of Senator Hamdullah.

Every child born in Pakistan is entitled to citizenship, according to CJ IHC Minallah, who also ordered the interior ministry to finish the legal process in the case by next Friday, Oct. 28, and submit a report.

The petitioner’s attorney, Advocate Umar Gilani, on the other side, said that “his client spent 24 years in Pakistan without any citizenship.” The petitioner shall be granted Pakistani nationality, the court ruled.

The attorney for the interior ministry informed the court that the ministry would quickly confirm the Afghan’s birth certificate.
