After Elon Musk took charge, celebrities started to leave Twitter.
Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Sara Bareilles, and Toni Branxton, among other well-known people, bid farewell to Twitter.
Twitter was just acquired by Elon Musk, and the experience has been nothing short of a roller coaster. Twitter news has emerged as a hot issue in the IT industry, with stories of senior executives being fired, partnerships being made with cryptocurrency exchanges, and even plans to start charging users for the verified blue tick.
In the midst of all of this mayhem, it was noted that a lot of famous people are not really pleased with Elon Musk, who describes himself as a supporter of free speech and wants to make Twitter an open platform for everyone.
Musk announced that he would scale back content control and end permanent banning on the network as soon as he acquired Twitter. One of Twitter’s most well-known banned users, Donald Trump, was also informed that he will regain access to his account.
Many people on the internet have praised all of this support for free expression and the desire for an open platform; others, however, are not so pleased. Many people, including well-known celebrities, think the formerly tranquil platform will suddenly contain unfiltered and unregulated information causing the propagation of hatred.
Toni Branxton tweeted her displeasure with “hate speech under the cover of free expression” and her decision to leave the platform for the time being to her 1.8 million followers.
“Some of the ‘free speech’ I’ve witnessed on this platform after its takeover has startled and sickened me. Hate speech disguised as “free expression” is unacceptable, therefore Toni Branxton decided to stop using Twitter since it is no longer a safe platform for her, her boys, and other people of colour.
