Alliance Bernstein AB HBCU Scholarship Program in America 2023

Alliance Bernstein has established the AB HBCU Scholars Program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college at specific historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

AB Hbcu Scholars Program Eligibility:

Applicants to the AB HBCU Scholars Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Self-identify as Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • Be a current undergraduate sophomore attending one of the following HBCUs:
    • Alabama A&M University
    • Fisk University
    • Hampton University
    • Tennessee State University
  • Be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
    • Accounting
    • Business Administration
    • Computer Science
    • Cyber security
    • Economics
    • Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical)
    • Finance
    • Liberal Arts (i.e. but not limited to Psychology, History, Philosophy, Arts & Humanities, etc.)
    • Management
    • Marketing
    • Math
    • Supply Chain
  • Continue to be enrolled full-time for the entire upcoming academic year at an eligible HBCU and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an eligible field
  • Be eligible to work in the US and not require sponsorship now or in the future

Employees of Alliance Bernstein and their relatives* are not eligible.
*A relative is defined as anyone related to an employee or an employee’s spouse, including but not limited to spouse, same-sex and opposite sex domestic partner, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, aunt, uncle, cousin, nephew and niece, or corresponding in-law or “step”relation.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship America will select finalists on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • work experience
  • a statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • any unusual personal or family circumstances
  • and an online recommendation
  • Financial need will also be considered

From the pool of qualified finalists, Alliance Bernstein will conduct interviews and select recipients.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Recipients must agree to accept:

  • a 9-week paid internship with Alliance Bernstein in the summer of 2023
  • participate in 75% of pre-internship development activities
  • meet with an Alliance Bernstein mentor at least 3 times

Awards (AB hbcu scholars program amount)

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive:

  • A $5,000 award.
  • Paid internship housing.
  • Up to twenty (20) awards will be granted.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.
  • Awards may be renewed for up to one additional year or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.
  • Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in full-time study at an eligible HBCU while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an eligible field.
    • The recipient must also earn an offer, accept and complete a second internship with Alliance Bernstein during the summer of 2023 in order to renew.

How to Get Successfully AB  hbcu scholars program scholarship

  1. Start your AB HBCU scholarship search as soon as possible. Many scholarships have early deadlines, so allow yourself plenty of time to research and apply for scholarships.
  2. Research Grants: Look for grants that match your skills, interests and academic goals. Scholarships can be found through a variety of sources, including school financial aid offices, online databases, and community organizations.
  3. Meet the eligibility requirements: Make sure you meet all the eligibility requirements for the scholarship you are applying for. If you do not meet the requirements, you will not be eligible for the scholarship.
  4. Application Preparation: Prepare your application carefully. Be sure to follow the instructions and provide all required information. Be sure to proofread your application and have someone else review it before you submit it.
  5. Highlight Your Achievements: Highlight your achievements and highlight why you are a strong candidate for a scholarship. Please provide specific examples of your achievements and how they relate to the scholarship criteria.
  6. Write a strong essay: If your scholarship requires an essay, try to write a strong and persuasive essay. Be sure to follow the prompts and answer all questions asked.
  7. Get a letter of recommendation: Ask a teacher, counselor, or other professional to write a letter of recommendation. Choose someone who knows you well and can showcase your skills and personality.
  8. After submitting your application, please contact the scholarship committee to ensure they received it. If you receive a hbcu scholarship, please thank the committee and submit all required documents.

Notification

  • All applicants will be notified in April of their status as a finalist or non-finalist.

Payment of Scholarships

  • Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of AllianceBernstein.
  • Payment is made in August and after the recipients have completed their internship.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
