Arshad Sharif assassination: Pakistani team completes investigation in Kenya
A two-member fact-finding commission in Kenya has completed its investigation into the strange shooting of prominent Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif by East African law enforcement in what they called a “mistaken identification.”
In a weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokeswoman Asim Iftikhar confirmed the development, noting that the team will submit its report to the Ministry of Interior.
He stated that the investigation team, which included Athar Waheed from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Umar Shahid Hamid from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), visited the crime scene and met with the Kenyan police chief to finish its probe report.
Earlier this week, the team questioned Waqar and Khurram Ahmed, siblings who hosted a late journalist in the East African country.
The Pakistani team landed in Nairobi as the incident sparked outcry in Pakistan, triggering the response of Pakistan’s Army and Intelligence chiefs, but many remain doubtful about his target killing.
According to local media reports, Arshad’s host confirmed that he was slain due to misidentification. Investigators learned that one of the two brothers entertained a dissident journalist at the suggestion of a friend.
