Dubai is well ahead of everyone in the Metaverse sector, just as it is in many other industries such as tourism, technology, business, and infrastructure. By aggressively spending resources and focusing on the sector, Dubai cleared the door for the entire globe to migrate into the Metaverse realm. Dubai has shifted its focus to metaverse-related activity in recent weeks, and the entire globe is still in awe of what Dubai has demonstrated. Not only did the city host the World Metaverse Show and the Dubai Metaverse Assembly, but GITEX also featured the technology in all its grandeur, as well as several significant announcements.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) unveiled its ‘DEWAVerse’ platform, becoming the first local government entity to deliver services via the new technology that some claim is the future of how people will interact on the internet, with each passing day. According to DEWA CEO HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer,

“The Move contributes to the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which seeks to make Dubai one of the world’s top ten metaverse economies as well as a worldwide centre for the metaverse community, in order to increase Dubai’s success in this sector.”

DEWAVerse contains a customer support centre as well as DEWA Workplace, which allows users to travel about the virtual environment and attend meetings. DEWA Future Lab allows users to organise brainstorming sessions, whilst DEWA Onboarding enables new workers to virtually learn about DEWA’s vision and goal.

Before we get into Dubai’s methods that have propelled them to the top of the Metaverse. We’d want to address the most fundamental question;

What exactly is the Metaverse?
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has defined the metaverse as “an embodied internet where you’re in the experience rather than simply looking at it.” Another way to look at it is as an interactive, immersive, and hyper-realistic shared virtual environment that exists online. Using technology such as augmented or virtual reality, you may build an avatar and access the metaverse. An online game like Fortnite or Roblox, where users have an avatar that they use to interact with other players, is a simple type of the metaverse.

In more complicated terms, the metaverse is the combination of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), cryptocurrencies, the internet of things (IOT), 5G internet, 3D modelling, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Many enterprises that have specialised in these fields have seen increased investment, and new businesses are springing up on a daily basis to capitalise on the metaverse. This has also resulted in the establishment of mini-crypto centres such as Dubai and Singapore, as well as digital asset management firms, 3D modelling firms, and AI firms.
