Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday in the Toshakhana case that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had brought against him, alleging the corrupt actions of the party chairman.

In response to a request from five members of the ruling coalition, the Speaker of the National Assembly forwarded the Toshakhana reference for the former Prime Minister’s disqualification to the ECP on September 19.

A unanimous decision was reached by the 5-member panel, which was led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja. However, only 4 members were present when the judgement was made public because Punjab member Babar Hassan Bharwana was absent today owing to illness.

Imran Khan would face criminal charges if he is implicated in corrupt practises, the Election Commission stated when announcing the verdict.

Imran Khan has been found ineligible to be elected as a member of the Majlis Shura (Parliament) or Provincial Assembly for the duration of the current assembly under Article 63 (13) for submitting a fraudulent affidavit in the context of the Toshakhana reference, according to the unanimous ruling.
