A terrifying close-up image of an ant, taken by Lithuanian photographer Eugenijus Kavaliauskas, won the Nikon Small World Photomicrography 2022 competition.

To demonstrate what ants look like up close, the face of an ant was photographed and five times enlarged using a microscope.

It was a contest for microscopic photography (photomicrography), which allowed participants to record details that the human eye could not see.

The photographer claimed that because of his close proximity to a forest, it was simple for him to take pictures of ants.

But since it was dull to photograph an ant, he remarked, “I put it under a microscope and snapped images.”

He said that “nothing is dreadful in nature” when asked why the ant appeared frightening under the microscope.

Bumblebees first appeared to be nothing less than monsters, but as he said, “I’ve become accustomed to it and am delighted to realise how lovely, intriguing things under our feet are.”
