“A home without books is a body without the soul.” (Marcus Tullius Cicero)

Reading is the exercise of mind mostly done with books. A book is a volume of many sheets of paper bounded together, containing text, illustrations, photographs, or other kind of information. The role of books in human life is vital and undeniable. Books are as important as any other basic need of life.

“Books are a storehouse of knowledge.”

Everyone reads books according to his taste and temperament. I am also fond of reading books. I have read a good number of novels, dramas, short stories and poetry books. Books not only give enjoyment but also leave a deeper impression on the mind of the reader. Luckily a large number of books are stacked in our family-library. Their sweet company has made me a true book-lover.

“Book are our never- failing friends.”

Books are said to be the best friends of human beings as they provide excellent information. They enhance our knowledge and broaden our vision. They console us when we are worried. They guide us how to lead a successful life.

“Without books there Would be no history, there could be no concept of

humanity.”

Good books direct us how to handle different situations. They help us develop the habit of contemplation over various issues. They provide strength to the individuals in all the phases of life. They expose various hidden truths. They increase the man’s thirst for exploring new things. it is rightly said that

“The greater our knowledge increases, The greater our ignorance unfolds.”

But one should be very meticulous in the selection of books. As the good books are extremely fruitful, some bad books can prove very dangerous.

“Books are the mirrors of the soul.”

People do have different likes and dislike in the regard of books. Same is the case with me. I like to read books which are based on facts and figures. I know that only the good books benefit an individual with the awareness of the entire world related to the discoveries and inventions, which are being made throughout the world. I strongly believe in Francis Bacon’s saying:

“Some books are to be tasted, others are to be swallowed and some to be chewed and digested.”

I love reading all kinds of good books, but my favourite book is the Holy Quran, the last revelation of Allah Almighty. It is the last divine revelation. It was revealed upon the last prophet of Allah, Hazrat Muhammad (SAAW). The Arch- angel Gabriel brought this scripture in the 7th century A.D. in fragments. It is in

Arabic language. It has 30 sections, 114 chapters and 6,666 verses. It is the only infallible book of the world.

“This is the book about which there is no doubt, guidance for those conscious of

Allah.” (Al-Quran 2-2)

The Holy Quran is written in the purest and most perfect form of Arabic. It is divided into chapters and verses. The chapters are called Surahs, which are 114 in number. The opening chapter of the Holy Quran is very short, having seven verses. We Muslims repeat it several times a day, and it is called Surah Fatiha, that is, the preface or introduction. It at once affects the feelings of a true Muslim. He cannot do anything evil or bad if he understands its true meaning.

And, indeed We have granted you the Seven Doubly-Repeated (Verses) and (built on it) the Grand Quran. (Al-Quran 15-87)

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is the last in the line of prophets, going back in time to Hazrat Adam (A.S). Therefore, the Holy Quran is the last of all the divine books revealed by Allah to his prophets. Whereas the other books changed or got tempered with time, the Quran still exists in its first original purity. Every word of it is God’s word, perfect and pure.

“Islam” means obedience to the will of Allah. The will of Allah is expressed in the Quran, clearly and completely. It contains the Islamic law in its basis. The Islamic principles cover every aspect of our private and public life. The Holy Quran explains how we can establish a society in which all help each other and none troubles anyone — a society based on the principles of honesty, justice, and fair play.

Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAAW) said:

“The Holy Quran is a wealth that no wealth can equal (or reach) it. And there will be no poverty after it.”

The Holy Quran is surely the most read book in the world. Usually, the book is read only once or twice but the Holy Quran is read again and again. It is the only book which a large number of people have learned by heart.

The Holy Quran is a complete code of life. One can find a solution to every problem such as Social, economic, moral and religious. It deals with the worldly affairs and also with affairs of the world hereafter. It gives us complete guidance. There are clear instructions about our life in the Holy Quran. Every aspect of our life has been discussed in detail and in a logical Way.

The Holy Quran is a complete code of life. In it, one can find solution to every problem. It not only deals with the worldly affairs but also with matters of the world hereafter. Every aspect of our life has been discussed in detail in it. It helps us lead a noble, honest, humble and fair life and makes us live a more harmonious life with our fellow beings. It defines and determines the true relationship between man and the Creator.

The Holy Quran is not only for an individual or nation but also for the whole humanity. It is for everyone. It can bring revolution in man’s life. It tells us how to serve and worship Allah. It tells us how to live a life of virtue. It tells us how to behave in our homes, how to treat our parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, neighbours and even the strangers.

“The Holy Quran is the greatest book of knowledge and instruction for all

humanity and for all time.”

The Holy Quran gives us guidance about both life in this world and the life hereafter. It tells us what reward we can get if we do good deeds and what punishments can be for bad deeds. So, it proves a great help in character-building. it makes us a good Muslim as well as a good human being.

Every morning, I love to recite the Holy Quran. I recite it with its Urdu translation. There is a lot of information in it. It soothes my heart and purifies my thoughts. It enables me to ponder over different things and revise my life altogether. It motivates me to give up all the bad deeds and encourages me to do something beneficial for the whole humanity.

In short, the Holy Quran has more qualities than pens can write or words can describe. It is an encyclopedia of knowledge, wisdom and morality. So, we should study it and act upon the golden tidings given in it. It can make us true Muslims and ideal persons for society. May Allah strengthen our ties with the Holy Quran! Ameen.

The superiority and preference of the Holy Quran on all other books and sayings is the same as the superiority of Almighty over His creatures.

Hazrat Muhammad (SAAW)
