The premier revealed that the PTI leader approached him a month ago and asked to resolve two issues through conversation during a gathering with vloggers in Lahore.

The selection of the army chief was the primary issue, and holding elections was the second, according to PM Shehbaz. But I resisted,” he said.

Imran Khan was instead invited to a talk on the Charters of Democracy and the Economy, according to Shehbaz Sharif.

The prime minister revealed that Khan had requested three names from him in order to fill the Chief’s position and had offered to deliver him three names in return. Khan allegedly instructed the Premier, via the middleman, “Let’s appoint the army chief together.”

PM Shahbaz stated, “I sent him [Khan] a message that is a constitutional duty that the prime minister has to undertake.”

The premier commented on the news conference held by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Nadeem Anjum and Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar: “General Nadeem Anjum convened the press conference with my consent.”

Khan himself stated earlier this month that the selection of the COAS should be based on merit. Khan stated, “COAS should not be my man or anyone else’s.”

This information has come to light as General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the incumbent COAS, approaches his retirement date.

In November of this year, General Bajwa’s extended mandate will come to a conclusion. 2016 saw his appointment to this role.

COAS Bajwa has reaffirmed his intention to step down when his second three-year tenure ends in November.
