BRISBANE – Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat against Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 World Cup match at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

The Nabi-led squad and the Lankan Lions are now the two worst teams in Super 12 Group A. With two points, the island country is clinging to second place.

Afghanistan had previously played three games and gained two points, with two of their matches being postponed due to rain, but Sri Lanka had won just one match and lost two.

Today’s game is not very important because the victor will be dependent on other teams to advance in the mega event, whilst the losing team will almost certainly not qualify for the next round.

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Gulbadin Naib, Ibrahim Zadran, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (C), Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi
