KARACHI – Today, Shehbaz Sharif, the current prime minister, will travel to Beijing for the first time.

Premier Li Keqiang of the People’s Republic of China’s State Council has invited the premier to make the trip. He will travel with a distinguished group that includes Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Before leaving, the prime minister tweeted that it was an honour to be one of the few leaders invited following the historic National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

He added that while the globe is facing numerous problems, Pakistan and China remain together as allies and partners. He further said that his meetings with Chinese leadership will centre on revitalising CPEC among other things.

The second phase of CPEC, according to the PM, is expected to usher in a new age of socioeconomic progress and improve the standard of living for our people. We can all benefit greatly from studying the Chinese economic miracle.

Following the momentous 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Prime Minister of Pakistan will be among the first world leaders to visit China. His visit continues the frequent contacts between Pakistan and China at the leadership level.

PM Sharif will speak with Premier Li Keqiang at the delegation level and meet with President Xi Jinping. The All-Weather Strategic Cooperation Partnership will be reviewed, and the two parties will discuss regional and international trends.

The signing of several MoUs/Agreements in various fields is anticipated to further the broad bilateral cooperation agenda during the visit.
