Famous Pakistani Actor Qavi Khan Passes Away in Canada

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of legendary actor Qavi Khan, who breathed his last on Sunday in Canada, where he was undergoing treatment for an illness. He is 80 years old and leaves behind four children.

As news of his demise spread, tributes and condolences poured in from all corners of the world. Arts Council Karachi President Muhammad Ahmad Shah expressed his condolences, referring to the late actor as a “great actor who had left an indelible mark on the showbiz industry”.

Recipient of the Pride of Performance award, Qavi Khan had established himself as one of the most prominent actors of his generation. He was based in Canada in recent years, where he was receiving treatment for cancer.

In a statement to Geo News, Adnan Qavi, son of the legendary actor, said that the details about his father’s funeral prayer would be announced later.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of the incredible actor. He termed the demise of Qavi Khan an irreparable loss to the arts sector in the country. The premier also prayed that Allah bless the departed soul and grant patience to the bereaved family.

Qavi Khan’s contribution to Pakistan’s cinema and television industries was immeasurable. He was one of the first actors on television and appeared in more than 200 films and TV plays since the mid-1960s. He started his career with Radio Pakistan and later moved to Lahore, where he started working in television and film.

Khan’s talent and versatility were evident in his performances on film, television, stage, and radio. He won numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Nigar Awards. In March 2011, an event was arranged at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) auditorium in Islamabad to pay tribute to Qavi Khan’s achievements.

Some of his notable recent works include Saheliyan (a 2016 television serial), Farz (2017), Khaani (2017), and Meri Shehzadi (2022–23) & Andhera Ujala as well.

Qavi Khan’s death is a great loss for the Pakistani arts industry. His talent and contribution to the industry will be deeply missed. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find the strength to bear this loss.
