United Nations Police Department of Peace Operations has appointed Faisal Shahkar, the top police officer in Pakistan’s most populous region, as a police adviser.
The enormous accomplishment for the Pakistani police officer who began his career as an assistant superintendent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police was acknowledged in a news statement from the UN.

The experienced Pakistani police officer replaces Luis Carrilho, a Portuguese officer who recently finished his assignment, according to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric. According to the statement, Mr. Shahkar has more than three decades of expertise both domestically and abroad.

The honourably discharged officer had previously served with the UN as a team captain within the UN Standing Police Capacity.
The press release also noted that Pakistani police officers had previously supported field operations for the Department of Peace Operations’ Police Division from 2011 to 2013 and from 2005 to 2008, as well as for the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from 2004 to 2005 and the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) (2000-2002).
