US demands an investigation into the death of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif

WATERLOO – The renowned Pakistani investigative journalist Arshad Sharif was murdered in Kenya, and the US State Department has urged for an impartial inquiry into his death.

Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, requested Kenyan authorities to look into the situation during a press conference. He avoided getting into specifics by stating that “it’s not totally obvious that we know all the facts surrounding what led to his death at this moment, pushing for a comprehensive inquiry.”

He praised the late Pakistani journalist’s work and stated that it was evident Arshad was committed to the basic freedom of expression, which led him to travel the globe.

The US representative also sent condolences to the deceased journalist’s family, friends, and the Pakistani media industry.

Ned Price responded when asked how Washington was assisting journalists who were under threat that Washington believed in the protection of journalists and the right to freedom of expression and mentioned that USAID has several programmes to work with governments all over the world to strengthen those rights and independent media.
