Lynn's family announced in a statement sent to The Associated Press that she passed away on Tuesday

The family released a statement saying, "Our lovely mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep

They requested privacy while they mourned and indicated that a memorial service would be planned later.

Before beginning her career in the early 1960s, Lynn had four children, and her songs showcased her pride in her rural Kentucky upbringing.
