Sharif, who specialised on defence and foreign policy, covered hostilities in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. From London, Paris, Strasbourg, and Kiel, he provided news coverage for prominent Pakistani news organisations. He is the 2012 Agahi Award recipient. The 2016 Investigative Journalist of the Year Award 2015 went to Sharif as the host and Adeel Raja as the producer for the programme Powerplay. Sharif took home the Current Affairs Anchor of the Year Award in 2018.
In 2014, Sharif launched Power Play on ARY News.
Instead of conducting dialogues, the programme concentrated on presenting viewers with new knowledge.
