Audi has unveiled its electric vehicle : a battery-powered e-rickshaw

Audi has unveiled its most outlandish electric vehicle to date: a battery-powered rickshaw.
Expanding into electric rickshaws may seem like an unexpected decision for a company best known for premium vehicles like the Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi e-tron GT, but there’s a very good reason for it.

The project is a partnership between the Audi Environmental Foundation and Nunam, a German-Indian non-profit that employs battery technology to improve access to renewable energy.

Nunam plans to launch three electric rickshaws on Indian roads next year. The devices are powered by old batteries from the Audi e-tron test fleet and were built in partnership with Audi’s Neckarsulm plant’s training staff.

The pilot project will assess the ‘second-life’ potential of used car batteries, as well as boost career prospects for women in India by giving them with e-rickshaws to move items.
