Cash for Work Programme Launched in Sindh

Sajid Hussain Turi, the federal minister for overseas Pakistanis and human resource development, introduced the great “Cash for Work” programme on Friday for the labourers in Sindh who were severely affected by the flood.
A news release issued here on Friday stated that a federal minister has started Cash for Work at Pehlwan Khan Khoso Jamshoro.

Sajid Hussain Turi was accompanied on his tour by the person in charge of the ILO in Pakistan, Manzor Khan, the director general of labour Singh, representatives of the Pakistan Workers’ Federation, and representatives of the Pakistan People’s Party Sindh.
Since this is a programme that has been introduced for the first time in Pakistani history to assist the labourers in flood-devastated areas, the minister hailed Cash for Work as a tremendous chance.

As part of the Cash for Work programme, the labourers will maintain their own homes as well as the roads and villages in which they live, and they will get daily wages in exchange for their labour. The Ministry of OP&HRD and ILO collaborated to launch this programme.

40 000 affected workers would be registered under the Cash for Work programme, he continued. The fact that the women of the afflicted households will be given all the tools they need to make crafts and paid daily for them encourages women’s empowerment, which will improve their well-being and promote sustainable development.
