According to officials, a crush amid large Halloween crowds in a well-known nightlife district in South Korea’s capital resulted in more than 100 fatalities.

In the previous hour, the dead toll increased from 59 to 120, with local media reporting an additional 100 injuries.

Videos from the Itaewon neighbourhood of Seoul show body bags on the streets, first responders giving CPR, and rescuers attempting to free those pinned beneath other people.

The cause of the crush is unknown.

Yoon Suk-yeol, the president of South Korea, has convened an urgent meeting.

The chief of Seoul’s Yongsan fire department, Choi Seong-beom, told the AP news agency that while 46 people were still missing, 13 remains had been taken to a hospital.
